Would it be possible to add a vertical explorer bar on the left side of the screen that you could hide, that would show a list of your favorites and which ones are connected? Check out the IE7 feature under the 'View' menu to display the Explorer bar for Favorites, History, etc. Something similar to that, but color each favorite to show whether its connected. A single click on the favorite on the explorer bar should take you directly to your active host session, where clicking on a disconnected favorite would open a new tab and log you in.

There's another RD tabbed application named 'Royal TS' has this feature if you want to see it in action. (But RD-tabs is still way better!)
