It would be cool to make a flash movie out of an RDP session..

My use for that is I can RDTabs a server and from there establish a Webex session with a software vendor to fix a problem. I'd like to record the RDTabs session so that I can document what they are doing on the system. It saves lots of time when integrating products into other environments.

That's a cool idea, but I'm not sure how I would go about doing that. The screenshot feature is not fast enough to fire successively to make an animation. Each time the screen is captured, in fact, the remote desktop briefly is unable to accept input from the client. If it were to run at even a slow animation rate (say, 4 frames per second), you wouldn't be able to have any interaction with the desktop.

The solution to your problem might be better suited by using some sort of screen video capture software that's external to RD Tabs and simply captures everything on the screen, including RD Tabs, and then you can crop the remote desktop afterwards.

Great idea, though. I wish I could think of a slick way to implement it...

I don't think that will help. It's just for creating SWF movies, which again is cool, but it doesn't offer an "animated screen capture" which is really the big stumbling block for me here.

Maybe this will offer the 'animated screen capture' you mentioned .. instead of the thought of utilizing the windows screen shot feature use an SDK ..

Search in SourceForge SVN for Camstudio.. they have a full open source Flash SDK and it looks like it was built with Visual Studio so it shouldn't be hard to integrate into a WinForms app .. here's a couple links:

Why not just install CamStudio and record what you are doing in RD Tabs that way? 🙂 I think it would be a lot easier than implementing the CamStudio code in RD Tabs itself.

Yeah, thinking about it that way, maybe its not really in the scope of the RDTabs application. Camstudio works fine for drawing a rectangle around your RDP window and recording the remote desktop movie that way. Using the app stand-alone is probably is a better option than integrating with RDTabs since recording multiple RDP sessions at a time in RDtabs would be too CPU/RAM intensive.
