Where I work, we launch RDTabs sessions using an in-house tool. It passes a string to the executable that includes the IP, username and password. The execution flag (string) looks like this:

START SERVER $ip /u:$aduser /p:$adpass /o:$rdpport

When the session opens in RDTabs, the tab displays the IP of the host instead of the hostname. I've been trying to figure out how to get it to display the hostname, as this is easier for me to work with.
I see in the example screenshots on this site, the hostname is ALWAYS in the tab. Any idea why that is not happening in my case?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Take care,

Mike

Hey Mike. The IP address is set as the connection address and display name (tab title). Also, RD Tabs doesn't have any way to know the actual name of the server. To do what you want, you would need to have an intermediate script. So your tool would run the script, it would do a reverse DNS lookup (assuming you have reverse DNS), then pass that to RD Tabs.

Hi Timothy,

Thanks for your reply! That's sort of what we have going on. Not a script, as such, but our tool sends a request to launch RDTabs with certain values. But RDTabs only seems to accept IP for input. Using the same launcher with something like RoyalTS, you can send it the IP, hostname, credentials and gateway, AND you can choose which of those values you want to be displayed in the tab. I was just hoping there was something similar for RDTabs. It looks like that is not the case, though.

Thanks again,

Mike
